Does EcoLock HD mulch glue prevent weeds?
EcoLock HD is a landscape adhesive, not a weed barrier. It bonds mulch and gravel together to prevent displacement, but it does not kill or block weeds on its own. For best results, lay landscape fabric underneath your mulch before applying EcoLock HD. The combination of fabric plus adhesive gives you both weed suppression and material stability.
How long does mulch glue last?
EcoLock HD provides a strong hold for up to 24 months when applied as directed (2 thin coats on dry material). Longevity depends on weather exposure, foot traffic, and material type. Most customers see 18–24 months of solid performance before a touch-up coat is needed.
Is mulch glue safe for pets?
Yes. EcoLock HD is a water-based, non-toxic formula that is completely safe for dogs, cats, and other pets once fully cured (24 hours after application). During application and curing, keep pets off the treated area. Once dry, it poses no risk — pets can walk, dig, and play on treated surfaces.
Is mulch glue safe for plants?
Absolutely. EcoLock HD is designed to be plant-safe. The cured adhesive is water-permeable, meaning rain and irrigation pass through to reach soil and plant roots. It does not leach chemicals into the soil or damage root systems. Avoid spraying directly onto plant leaves and flowers during application.
Does mulch glue let water through?
Yes. EcoLock HD creates a bonded surface layer while remaining fully water-permeable. Rain, sprinkler water, and hose irrigation all pass through the treated mulch or gravel and reach the soil below. Your plants, trees, and shrubs continue to receive the water they need.
How much area does 1 gallon of EcoLock HD cover?
One gallon covers approximately 150 sq ft on mulch and 75–100 sq ft on rock and gravel. Coverage depends on material porosity and depth — denser materials like river rock require more product. The 2 Gallon size covers up to 300 sq ft on mulch and saves you 10% per gallon. Use our coverage calculator to figure out exactly how much you need.
What kind of sprayer do I need?
Any standard pump sprayer works — a 1-gallon or 2-gallon garden pump sprayer from any hardware store is ideal. EcoLock HD is ready to use straight from the jug. Pour it directly into the sprayer tank with no mixing or diluting required. After use, rinse the sprayer with warm water before the adhesive dries inside.
Can I apply EcoLock HD on slopes and hillsides?
Yes — slopes are one of the best use cases for EcoLock HD. On inclines, apply a slightly heavier coat than you would on flat ground. For steep slopes, consider applying two coats (let the first dry for 2 hours before the second). The adhesive locks material in place so rain and gravity can't wash it downhill.
Does EcoLock HD work on rubber mulch?
Yes. EcoLock HD bonds to rubber mulch, playground rubber, and other synthetic ground covers. Because rubber is non-porous, apply a heavier coat than you would on wood mulch and allow a full 24-hour cure. The bond on rubber mulch is especially strong since the adhesive sits on the surface rather than being absorbed.
Can I apply it in cold or wet weather?
EcoLock HD requires dry conditions for proper bonding. Apply when surfaces are dry and temperatures are above 40°F (4°C). Avoid application if rain is expected within 4 hours. For best results, apply on a clear day when temperatures are between 50–85°F. If you live in a region with heavy rain, plan your application during a dry spell of at least 24 hours.
What's the difference between the 1 Gallon and 2 Gallon?
Same formula, different sizes. The 1 Gallon ($49.99) covers up to 150 sq ft on mulch — ideal for single beds, tree rings, and small projects. The 2 Gallon ($89.99, save 10%) covers up to 300 sq ft — best for larger yards, multiple beds, or professional jobs. Both are the same ready-to-use formula.
How do I reapply EcoLock HD?
When your mulch or gravel starts to loosen (typically 12–24 months), simply spray a fresh coat over the existing treated area. No need to remove old mulch first — EcoLock HD bonds to previously treated material. If you've added fresh mulch on top, apply a new coat to the fresh layer. Clean your sprayer with warm water after each use.
